Mother Ganga and King Bhagirath

Raja Bhagirath

On hearing the name of King Bhagiratha, we remember Mother Ganga, after rigorous penance, King Bhagiratha brought Ganga to earth, his father's name was Dilip, his dynasty was Ikshvaku, to make him curse his 60 thousand ancestors. Had to meditate for this. The description of which is found in Harvansh Purana, Mahabharata, Bhagavata, Brahaivaivarta Purana and Ramayana.

King Sagara and sixty thousand sons-

King Sagar was the king of Ayodhya, he had two ranias, he had no children, from which he meditated and pleased the sage Bhugr and received a boon. And Rishi-Bhugu told them that they would have a son from one of the queens who would carry forward his dynasty, and there would be 60 thousand sons from the second queen, both the queens would have to decide among themselves how many sons they wanted, thus the queen Sumati wished 60 thousand sons and Rani Keshini had a son who would carry forward the lineage. Rani Sumati who was the daughter of King Arishtanemi and Rani Keshini who was the daughter of King Vidarbha. Received Santano. After spending some time, according to the boon of Rishi-Bhugu, Queen Keshini gave birth to a son named Asmaj and a Tumbi was born in the womb of Queen Sumati, which gave birth to 60 thousand sons.

Thus all the princes grew with the passage of time, and King Sagara built a huge yagna mandala between the Himalayas and Vinghachal, and after that Ashwamedha left a horse to perform the yagna. While doing so, he changed his form and took the horse to the ashram of Kapil Muni, where Kapil Muni was in his penance, thus Indra made the horse Kapil Muni Hid in labor. When King Sagar knew that the horse had been lost, he sent 60 thousand of his sons to find the horse containing Ashwamedha. Everybody did a lot of research, even digging the earth and finding a horse up to Himalayas, many innumerable creatures were also killed in it. Finally, they found the horse at Kapil Muni's ashram where Kapil Muni was in his meditation practice, all 60 thousand sons of Sagar thought that the horse was stolen by Kapil Muni. He spoke loud insults and insulting words of Kapil Muni, which opened the eyes of Kapil Muni and cursed him and consumed everyone. When King Sagar did not get information about his sons for a long time, he was saddened and asked his grandson to find his 60 thousand sons and horses, thus his grandson Anshuman went out in search but for a long time nothing was found out. Eyeing Garuda, who was asked by Sagar's 60 thousand maternal uncle, he told that Indra had tied the horse in Kapil Muni's ashram, and when 60 thousand sons of Sagara reached here. So they thought that Kapil Muni has stolen his horse, all insulted Kapil Muni to Kapil Muni has consumed by him curse all the rage. Thus Garuda asked Anshuman to take the horse so that his grandfather could complete the yagya.

Return of Anshuman -
When Anshuman went in front of his grandfather with the horse and told the whole situation, he was disappointed. And they thought of bringing Ganga to earth for the salvation of their sixty thousand sons but they could not succeed. When Anshuman's son Dilip grew up, Anshuman entrusted the kingdom with Dilip and meditated to bring Ganga to earth. After some time, he too passed away. The same process continued even as King Dilip handed over the weight of the kingdom to Bhagirathi and went to penance to bring Ganga to earth so that his father would be free from curse but after some time he too went to heaven. In this way, King Bhagirath had no children, he handed over the charge of the state to the ministers and left for meditation.
Boon received by Lord Brahaya -King Bhagiratha meditated deeply and pleased Lord Baha, Lord Bahama was pleased and asked him to ask for a boon, King Bhagiratha said that he wants to curse his father from the waters of the Ganges. And they want to have peace so that they can carry forward their lineage. Lord Bahya said that the first blessing will be achieved soon, but if the Ganges descended on the earth, then who will handle its velocity, Mahadev is the only one to stop the flow of Ganga. You should please Mahadev.

Lord Shiva's penance by Bhagiratha -In this way Bhagiratha, standing on one foot, did hard tenacity for a long time, and Lord Shiva pleased and fulfilled the desire of Bhagiratha, holding the Ganges in his head, bring the velocity of the Ganges as his obstacle and stream on the Ganges earth.
